ISLAMABAD: In response to recent train accidents, Pakistan Railways has issued a mandate requiring all passenger and goods trains to operate under the “Railway Work to Rules – Brake Powers.”

Syeda Maryam Gilani, Chief Operating Superintendent of Pakistan Railways, has issued an official circular to all divisional superintendents and the technical branch outlining strict directives for the engineering and technical staff. The circular stipulates that before any train is granted a fitness certificate, the braking material on every vehicle, coach, and wagon must be fully updated.

The circular further mandates that technical staff will verify the brake power of every coach and wagon to ensure it is functioning at 100%. Any train component failing to meet this standard will be immediately detached from the train.

Gilani emphasized that these measures are designed to safeguard passenger lives, ensure the safety and punctuality of rail operations, and uphold operational standards, ultimately preventing future train accidents.
