BAJAUR: A week-long curfew has been enforced in 24 areas of Mamond tehsil, Bajaur tribal district, following the launch of a targeted operation by security forces against terrorists. The curfew, which began on the evening of Friday, August 16, will remain in effect until 5pm on August 21.
The official notification, approved by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Home Department, restricts residents from leaving their homes or moving on the roads during the curfew period. Authorities have warned that any violations of the restrictions will be dealt with strictly, and violators will be held responsible for any resulting incidents.
The curfew affects several areas, including Malangi, Suprayi, Dwaogai, Meena Suleman Khel, Khworchai, Chamyar Jor, Zagai, Gat, Agra, Ghandai, Zari, Nakhtar, Mula Killi, Bakro, Gowati, Chamyalon, Larkalan, Barkalan, Ghanam Shah, Chotra, Damadola, Sultan Baig, Inam Khworo, and Naga.
In a related development, the Pakistan Army has initiated emergency construction work on the Jarr Bridge, which was washed away by recent floods, cutting off Bajaur’s road connection with Dir district. Army engineers, equipped with heavy machinery, are working around the clock to install a replacement bridge. The construction is expected to be completed within a few days, after which the vital route will be reopened for traffic.
