ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit Pakistan on August 21 for the sixth round of the Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue, the Foreign Office (FO) announced on Tuesday.

Pakistan and China share a longstanding strategic partnership that spans several sectors, including trade, energy, defense, and infrastructure. The fifth round of the Strategic Dialogue was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Wang in Beijing in May 2024.

According to the FO’s statement, “On the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Mr. Wang Yi is visiting Islamabad to co-chair the sixth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue on August 21, 2025.”

The visit is a part of the regular high-level exchanges between the two countries aimed at further deepening their ‘All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.’ The dialogue will focus on reaffirming support for core issues of mutual interest, enhancing economic and trade cooperation, and reinforcing the joint commitment to regional peace, development, and stability.

This announcement follows Wang’s ongoing visit to India. During a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Monday, Wang emphasized the importance of China and India viewing each other as partners and opportunities rather than adversaries. He also highlighted the resumption of dialogue and the maintenance of peace along the border, signaling a positive trajectory in bilateral relations.

Last month, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Wang on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation event, where both leaders reaffirmed their mutual support in key areas such as agriculture, mining, industry, and security.

Wang expressed China’s readiness to work with Pakistan to implement the important consensus reached by both countries’ leaders, advancing the vision of building a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Earlier this year, in February, President Asif Ali Zardari held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, where both sides vowed to further strengthen the Pakistan-China strategic cooperative partnership.
