President Asif Ali Zardari has called on authorities at provincial, district and local levels to remain on high alert ahead of expected heavy rainfall in Sindh. He directed that evacuation plans be finalised and relief machinery kept ready at district and tehsil levels, particularly in urban, low-lying and coastal areas.

The president also stressed the need for continuous monitoring of water levels at Hub Dam and other reservoirs. He urged local administrations and the media to run awareness campaigns, advising citizens to take precautions and follow official instructions.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a weather system over India’s Gujarat and Rajasthan borders could bring rain to Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab until 10 September. Heavy to very heavy showers are expected in the Koh-e-Sulaiman region and southern Punjab, raising concerns about urban flooding.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to enhance rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas and ensure timely assistance for displaced families. He said the government is working with provinces on a comprehensive strategy to mitigate climate-related risks, focusing on early warning systems and resilient infrastructure.
