Pakistan’s javelin thrower Muhammad Yasir Sultan secured a bronze medal at the Asian Throwing Championships in Mokpo, South Korea, on Friday with a season-best effort of 77.43 metres.
The 27-year-old produced his best throw on the sixth and final attempt, surpassing his previous mark of 76.07m set earlier this year at the Asian Athletics Championships.
Sri Lanka’s Pathirage Rumesh Tharanga struck gold with an impressive 82.05m, the only throw beyond the 80m mark. Japan’s Gen Naganuma claimed silver with 78.60m.
Yasir’s series included a foul on his opening attempt, a 75.79m on his second, two efforts in the 72m range, and another foul on his fifth. His last throw proved decisive, sealing his place on the podium.
The Pakistani thrower had earlier won silver in 2024 with 78.10m and bronze in 2023 with his career-best 79.93m. However, he is still chasing the milestone of breaking the 80m barrier.
