A woman sustained burns after her husband allegedly threw acid on her in the Nishtar Colony area on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Asma Bibi, was waiting for transport at Haji Park bus stop when her husband, Yohanna Younis, appeared and hurled acid on her.

The attack left her left ear and other parts of the body severely burnt, while her clothes were also damaged, according to SP Model Town Ikhlaq Ullah Tarrar.

Police said the assault stemmed from domestic discord, noting that the suspect had a prior record of violence against his wife. He was earlier booked in a case of physical assault at Nishtar Colony police station but was released on bail.

The latest incident was reported by the victim herself, who told police that her husband threatened to kill her before attacking her with acid. She raised alarm as the suspect fled the scene.

Taking notice, DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza directed police to ensure the suspect’s arrest. Police traced and apprehended Younis within hours.

“The accused has been handed over to the Investigation Wing. No leniency will be shown to those who attack women,” SP Tarrar said.
