Punjab government has launched a vocational training and certification initiative for inmates across the province, officials announced on Thursday.

Under the ‘Hunarmand Aseer Programme’, prisoners will be provided modern technical training in various trades with certification upon completion.

The initiative is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the provincial prisons department and the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC). The MoU was signed by PVTC Chairman Khalid Masood Chaudhry and Prisons DIG Saliq Jalal.

Instructors from the PVTC will train inmates in trades such as general electrical machinery, mobile phone repairing, tailoring, embroidery, beautician skills, computer applications, automobile mechanism, air conditioning repair, plumbing and other fields.
