Islamabad: A high-level delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Nuriddin Ismoilov, held an important meeting with Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, in Islamabad to deepen inter-parliamentary and bilateral cooperation.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed opportunities to expand bilateral ties, strengthen parliamentary collaboration, and share expertise in combating terrorism and climate change. They also underlined the importance of advancing joint initiatives in trade, economy, and transport sectors.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq lauded Uzbekistan’s successful hosting of the 150th Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, congratulating the country on the achievement. Expressing satisfaction at the launch of direct flights between Tashkent–Lahore and Tashkent–Islamabad, he voiced hope for expansion of the route network, including flights to Karachi.

Highlighting Pakistan’s strategic connectivity potential, Speaker Sadiq assured that Pakistan is ready to provide Uzbekistan with full access to its seaports — Karachi, Qasim, and Gwadar — to enhance regional trade and connectivity.

Climate change also featured prominently in the talks, with Pakistan being among the top three most-affected countries worldwide. The two sides agreed to foster practical cooperation to address the challenges of climate change.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Speaker Ismoilov invited Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to visit Tashkent, which he graciously accepted.

On the same day, the Uzbek delegation, on the recommendation of the National Assembly of Pakistan, visited the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to review its operations. The two sides reached an understanding to enhance technical cooperation, with Pakistan offering support in establishing a similar disaster management center in Uzbekistan.

The meeting was described as a vivid reflection of the brotherly bonds, mutual trust, and shared aspirations of Uzbekistan and Pakistan towards partnership and joint development.
