Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali has been cleared of rape allegations in the United Kingdom after police found no evidence to support the claims.
Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service announced the closure of the case, confirming the 24-year-old batter is free to travel again after regaining his passport.
Ali was arrested on August 4 following accusations by a British-Pakistani woman, who alleged he assaulted her at a Manchester hotel. She claimed to have met him on July 23 and again on August 1 before filing her complaint.
The Pakistan international denied the allegations, telling investigators the woman was a friend. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had suspended him during the probe, has now lifted all restrictions.
Ali was initially detained at Kent’s Spitfire County Cricket Ground and questioned at Canterbury Police Station. Police later determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed, officially closing the investigation.
