LAHORE: Two men arrested for torturing and killing two brothers over a Rs30 dispute in Raiwind have been shot dead in an “encounter” with the Crimes Control Department (CCD), the victims’ lawyer confirmed on Thursday.

The incident first surfaced after a video circulated on social media showing street vendors brutally assaulting the brothers with clubs in a public place. One of the siblings died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries later in hospital.

Ali Ahmed Awan, the lawyer representing the victims’ father, said that six men were nominated in the case, three of whom — including the main suspect — had been arrested.

“Two suspects, Owais and Shahzad, were killed in a police encounter after their accomplices attempted to attack the police,” he stated, adding that the CCD was still searching for the remaining accused. He also noted that no case had yet been registered regarding the alleged encounter.

An FIR was lodged on August 22 at Raiwind City Police Station under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code. According to the complainant, the assault took place on August 21 at 5:45pm when his sons stopped to buy fruit.

“Over a dispute about money, the fruit cart owner and his brother began beating my sons and called in more men,” the father said in his statement.
