BEIJING: Visitors in China can now sip coffee while standing more than 2,000 feet above a river, thanks to the newly opened Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou province. This awe-inspiring structure, which opened to the public on Sunday, spans the Huajiang Canyon and reaches a height of approximately 2,050 feet above the gorge, making it the world’s highest bridge.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge surpasses the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado, USA, which stands 956 feet above the Arkansas River. The bridge also boasts the title of the world’s longest bridge in a mountainous region, with a span of 4,600 feet.
To enhance the experience, a high-speed glass elevator takes visitors to a coffee spot located 2,600 feet above the river. Adventurous tourists can also test their bravery with a bungee jump or walk along a glass pathway suspended nearly 1,900 feet above the canyon floor.
This “infrastructure miracle” is part of China’s initiative to boost tourism and economic development in Guizhou, one of the country’s less-developed provinces. With its breathtaking views and thrilling activities, the bridge is expected to draw both local and international tourists.
