Adults aged 30 to 49 have also shifted in that direction: a quarter now report consuming news on the app, up from 2% in 2020. Usage is far lower among older age groups, with only 10% of adults aged 50 to 64 and 3% of those 65 and older saying the same.

Among TikTok users specifically, news consumption has risen steeply. More than half (55%) now say they regularly get news on the platform, compared with 22% in 2020.

The findings place TikTok alongside other platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook and Truth Social in the share of adult users who say they regularly get news there.
