Unidentified terrorists mounted a deadly assault on a Frontier Constabulary (FC) platoon in Hangu late on Sunday night, leaving three personnel martyred and 21 others injured, including three in critical condition.

According to police officials, terrorists stormed the FC fort in the Torah Wadi area of Doaba under the cover of darkness, triggering intense crossfire.

Security officials confirmed that Naik Sadiq Hussain, a resident of Safedsang, Sepoy Abdul Ghaffar of Sado Garhi Chehel Ghazi Baba, and Sepoy Zewar Khan of Yar Ghalji embraced martyrdom in the attack.

At least 21 personnel sustained injuries. Among the wounded were Naib Subedar Kashif, Havaldar Zahid, Lance Naik Aziz, Lance Naik Farooq, Sepoy Bilal, Maqsood Ali, Farooq Mehmood, Rafiullah, Amirullah, Abdul Haseeb, Hanifullah, Wajidullah, Sajid, Abdullah, Qaiser Ali, Muzammil, Lance Naik Haider and Usman, among others. Hospital sources said the condition of Maqsood Ali, Sajid and Usman remained extremely critical. They, along with other seriously injured personnel, were shifted to CMH Thal for treatment.

Meanwhile, Hangu’s Station House Officer (SHO) Imranuddin, who rushed with his team to support the besieged FC platoon, came under ambush at three separate points.

Terrorists opened heavy fire, but the SHO and his men retaliated, held their ground, and managed to evacuate the injured to safety.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, condemning the incident, said the assault was carried out by ‘Fitna al Hindustan’. In his statement, Naqvi paid tribute to the soldiers “who embraced martyrdom while bravely resisting the assault,” and directed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.

“The brave officers of the Federal Reserve Police [the term used for FC personnel] sacrificed their lives to foil the attack of India-sponsored terrorists,” he said. “The sacrifices of our martyrs will never go in vain.”

The attack comes as Pakistan faces a renewed wave of terrorism, particularly in K-P and Balochistan, following the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) decision to end its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

In recent months, terrorists have primarily targeted police, law enforcement agencies, and security forces, prompting intensified counterterrorism operations across the country.
