ISLAMABAD: Iran has extended an offer of assistance to Pakistan as the country reels from torrential rains and devastating floods that have claimed lives and displaced thousands, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The assurance came during a telephone conversation between Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Expressing deep sorrow over the widespread destruction, Momeni said, “Pakistan is our brotherly neighbouring country, and we are ready to provide every kind of assistance in this time of trial.”
He added that Tehran was “deeply saddened to see the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan,” underscoring that Iran stands “shoulder to shoulder with the people of Pakistan.”
The Iranian interior minister conveyed his condolences over the loss of precious lives, noting that the tragedy had resonated strongly with the Iranian people.
Responding to the gesture, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi thanked his counterpart for the offer of support and solidarity, assuring that the Pakistani government remained fully committed to relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected communities.
Heavy rains in recent weeks have swollen rivers, swept away homes, and destroyed infrastructure across northern Pakistan, prompting local and international calls for coordinated relief efforts.
Iran’s offer comes as Pakistan continues to seek regional cooperation and humanitarian support to tackle the fallout of one of the most destructive monsoon seasons in recent years.
