The Sindh Board of Technical Education has revamped its nearly 30-year-old curriculum to align it with modern technology and international standards. The updated syllabus now includes one-year and three-year courses in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Filmmaking, Cinematography, Digital Marketing, Advertising Skills, Airline and Airport Management, Aviation, and a Diploma in Business Management.
According to board officials, this year will see the Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) Part I examinations conducted entirely through an online system for the first time. The entire process – from registration and fee submission to examination fees and issuing admit cards – has been digitised. Additionally, students will receive their original mark sheets directly at their institutions. This new system will be implemented starting with the exams scheduled for mid-October. The move aims to eliminate delays in the issuance of certificates and mark sheets.
Data shows that the Sindh Technical Board oversees a total of 1,546 affiliated institutions, including 1,293 private and 253 government entities. Currently, 225 DAE programmes operate in morning and evening shifts, while two-year degree courses are offered in approximately 50 institutions. The board provides a wide range of education levels, from short three-month courses to three-year degree programmes.
In an exclusive interview with The Express Tribune, Chairman Musharraf Ali Rajput said that students no longer need to go abroad for modern technical education, as these opportunities are now available within the country. The board is transitioning to a fully automated system this year and is also considering implementing Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology in the future.
He added that all principals have been instructed to train their teachers in computer-based exam paper checking. This training process will be completed before mid-October to align the examination system with contemporary standards.
The chairman emphasised that by promoting technology-based education, the Sindh Technical Board is not only creating new opportunities for local students but also playing a vital role in producing skilled professionals for the country.
