His mother described the act as a “wound to her soul”

A statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot at by unidentified assailants in India’s Haryana.

The incident, which occurred a few days ago in Sawantkheda village, sparked outrage on social media. The statue was installed last year by Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) state president Digvijay Chautala.

Following the attack, a video clip allegedly showing the shooting was sent to Chautala from an overseas phone number, according to media reports. The message reportedly included threats suggesting that supporters of the slain singer could also be targeted.

Sidhu Moosewala, a popular and outspoken artist known for his powerful lyrics, was shot dead by gang members in 2022. His killing sent shockwaves across India and the global Punjabi community.

In response to the latest incident, Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, expressed grief and frustration in an Instagram post written in Punjabi. Describing the act as an attack on her son’s legacy and “a wound to her soul,” she lamented that even in death, those who opposed him continued to show hostility.

“My son was the voice of the people,” she wrote. “And efforts are still being made to silence him, even after he has gone to the Almighty.”

Kaur added that her son’s memory lives on as a symbol of resistance, declaring, “He was a movement, and that movement continues. One day, justice will be served. Our silence should not be mistaken for defeat.”

Police have registered a case in Dabwali, located in the Sirsa district, and investigations into the threats and shooting are underway.
