ISLAMABAD/DOHA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday voiced strong solidarity with Qatar following Israeli airstrikes on Doha, calling the attack an “unjust and heinous assault” on the Gulf state’s sovereignty.
The premier, who traveled to Doha with a high-level delegation, said his visit was meant to show Pakistan’s firm support for Qatar. After meeting Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other leaders, he returned home later the same day.
“Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with the Amir, the Royal Family, and the people of Qatar in this difficult moment,” Sharif said, extending condolences over the loss of lives and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
He stressed that Pakistan and Qatar had always supported each other “through thick and thin,” reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to Doha’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
The Israeli strike, which targeted Hamas officials, killed at least seven people and drew sharp criticism across the Arab world.
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani denounced the attack as reckless, warning that it threatened the security of the entire Gulf region. He added that regional partners were in consultations to decide on a collective response, accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of dragging the Middle East into “chaos.”
