Senior citizens have appealed to the government to take immediate steps to provide them with all essential facilities, stressing that they have been consistently neglected despite their lifelong contributions to society.

The appeal was made at a gathering organised by The Senior Citizens Organization at the new auditorium hall of Hyderabad Press Club on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons. A large number of elderly participants attended the event, including doctors, engineers, professors, intellectuals, writers, and professionals from various fields.

Addressing the gathering, the organization’s president Dr. Shahid Khanzada, General Secretary Seerat Shaheena Syed, Dr. Usman Haroon, Ishrat Ali Khan, and others said that while the world celebrates International Day of Older Persons with special recognition and privileges for the elderly, the situation in Pakistan is the opposite. They lamented that senior citizens here are not only denied basic rights but their existence is often ignored altogether.
