Torrential rains continued for a third consecutive day across lower Sindh, crippling normal life in multiple districts. Nawabshah, Jamshoro, Badin, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Adam, Digri, Tharparkar, Matiari and adjoining towns remained severely affected, with low-lying areas submerged, power supply suspended, communication networks disrupted and road links cut off.
In Nawabshah, continuous downpour turned the city into a pond. Key commercial areas including Liaquat Market, Station Road, Mohni Bazaar and Kacheri Road were under water, leaving residents and shopkeepers stranded. Drainage staff was nowhere in sight, aggravating public misery.
Home to many Karachi-based housing scemes, in Jamshoro’s Thana Bola Khan, landslides and a major breach in the link road severed road access to the Kohistan belt. A 132kV transmission line also collapsed, plunging several towns into darkness for two days. Reports of walls collapsing and motorcycles being swept away in streams were also received.
In Thatta, both hilly and coastal settlements were inundated. Families displaced by floods took shelter on embankments, complaining of no government assistance and suffering from hunger, thirst and disease.
In the desert district of Tharparkar, floodwaters entered the Diplo Taluka Hospital, forcing doctors to treat patients in a private sitting area. Medical equipment has already been damaged, while heavy rains continue to batter the area.
In Tando Muhammad Khan, almost all central markets and neighborhoods including Shahi Bazaar, Chandni Chowk and Seerat-un-Nabi Chowk remained submerged. Power outages and internet suspension paralyzed daily and business activities.
In Mirpurkhas, the roof of a dilapidated house in Satellite Town collapsed, injuring six people including four children, who were shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment. In Digri, floodwater entered homes and shops, forcing closure of business districts. Cotton, chili and tomato crops have suffered significant damage, leaving growers anxious. In Tando Adam, electricity supply to over 100 villages has remained suspended for three days, after the utility cited “rain and faults” as reasons. Residents protested, demanding urgent restoration of power.
In the coastal district of Badin, heavy rain caused breaches in drainage channels. A 30-foot-wide cut in the Aliabad drain submerged hundreds of acres of farmland, destroying standing crops. Walls and old structures collapsed in several parts of the district, injuring residents.
Similar reports of flooding, power breakdowns, and market closures poured in from Matiari, Golarchi, and Dhabeji, where communication services were also disrupted.
The three-day spell has paralyzed civic life and inflicted widespread damage on agriculture, housing, and infrastructure. Affected communities and traders have appealed to the government for urgent drainage, power restoration, and relief operations.
