Renowned comedian and actor Jaswinder Bhalla, a household name in Punjabi cinema, passed away on Friday at the age of 65. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali and breathed his last early in the morning, hospital officials confirmed. His cremation will take place on Saturday at Balongi crematorium.

Bhalla’s career spanned over three decades, during which he became one of the most celebrated figures in Punjabi comedy. Beginning with stage performances and comedy albums in the 1980s and 1990s, he transitioned into films with roles in Dulha Bhatti and Jaspal Bhatti’s Mahaul Theek Hai (1999).

He went on to star in several Punjabi blockbusters, including Jatt & Juliet, Sardarji, and the popular Carry On Jatta franchise, where his role as Advocate Dhillon earned him immense fame. Known for his wit, sharp timing, and unforgettable one-liners, Bhalla carved a niche that inspired generations of performers.

He is survived by his wife Paramdeep, a fine arts teacher in Chandigarh, and their son, actor Pukhraj Bhalla. The father-son duo shared screen space in the 2013 film Stupid 7.

Tributes from colleagues and fans continue to pour in, remembering Bhalla as a pioneer who elevated Punjabi comedy and brought unmatched joy to audiences.
