Reports of a lion escaping from Lohi Bher Wildlife Park have proven false, after rumours circulating on social media sparked panic among residents.

Posts on social media claimed that a lion had broken free from its enclosure, creating fear in nearby communities. However, the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department strongly denied the claims, describing them as “baseless and fabricated.”

In an official statement, the department confirmed that all animals, including the lion, remain safely within their enclosures and that no escape had occurred. It added that multiple security measures are in place at the lion’s enclosure, making any such incident virtually impossible.

The department noted that such unfounded rumours not only spread unnecessary fear but also damage the institution’s credibility. Citizens and media outlets were urged to rely solely on verified, official information and to refrain from sharing unconfirmed reports.

The statement further warned that the department reserves the right to take action under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act against those spreading false and misleading information. The spokesperson stressed that the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department remains committed to public safety, transparency, and the welfare of animals at all times.
