  • IGP Dr Usman Anwar briefs 43 trainee DSPs, including nine women, on policing reforms in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday underlined the need to align policing with artificial intelligence and modern technology to strengthen crime control and enhance public service delivery, while also announcing a series of promotions across key ranks in the force.

Addressing trainee DSPs of the Second Specialized Training Course of the National Police Academy at the Central Police Office, Dr Anwar said that experiences gained during training across provinces were crucial for professional grooming and capacity-building. The delegation, comprising 43 trainee officers, including nine women, was briefed on Punjab Police’s operations as part of its study tour of the province.

In his remarks, the IGP emphasized adopting modern policing approaches, developing progressive attitudes, and enhancing officers’ professional capacities. He noted that contemporary policing required not only field experience but also strong office management, administration, and public engagement skills.

Additional IG Training Tariq Rustam Chauhan and senior officers briefed the delegation on police welfare, discipline, finance, investigation, and operational mechanisms. The trainees also shared presentations, observations, and field insights, while DIG Training Rao Munir Zia and AIG Training Saba Sittar addressed the officers.

Ceremony held to decorate 23 Inspectors promoted to DSP with new ranks

Separately, a dignified ceremony was held at the Central Police Office to decorate newly promoted officers, where Dr Usman Anwar, along with senior officers, pinned DSP ranks on 23 officers promoted from Inspector rank and congratulated their families. A large number of relatives, including parents and children, attended the event.

Highlighting the importance of supervisory roles, the IGP said that DSPs played a vital role in both operational and investigation policing. He revealed that so far this year, four promotion boards from Inspector to DSP and five from Sub-Inspector to Inspector had been conducted, through which 190 officers were promoted to DSP, 683 to Inspector, and 75 to Senior Traffic Warden ranks. Overall, 599 officers have been promoted to DSP, 101 to SP, and 92 Senior Traffic Wardens to Traffic Officer rank. In addition, 3,167 Sub-Inspectors have been promoted to Inspector and 1,068 Traffic Wardens elevated to Senior Traffic Warden ranks.

Dr Anwar stressed that timely promotions and welfare were the fundamental rights of all police officers and personnel, urging them to reciprocate by serving citizens with dedication and courage. He further stated that the Punjab Police was ensuring transparent recruitment, postings, and promotions through digital platforms, while leveraging technology to improve service delivery and ensure easy access to justice.

The ceremony was attended by Additional IG Punjab Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry, DIG Establishment-I Suleman Sultan Rana, DIG Establishment-II Capt (R) Liaqat Ali Malik, and other senior officers.
