The Excise and Taxation Department has announced a substantial increase in the base prices for attractive registration numbers, as reported by City42 on Wednesday.

According to the report, the base price of 64 desirable numbers will be raised tenfold. In the upcoming e-auction, popular registration numbers like “1” and “786” will now start at Rs. 100,000, compared to the previous starting price of Rs. 10,000.

Similarly, the base price for double-digit numbers will increase from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 50,000, while triple-digit numbers will rise from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 25,000. For the “999” series, an additional charge of Rs. 10,000 will apply.

Under the new system, attractive numbers will be issued at the time of vehicle registration and transfer. The department also announced that three car series and one motorcycle series will be issued daily.

The Director General of Excise has already submitted a summary to the Punjab government for approval. Once the summary is approved, the revised prices will take effect immediately.
