SARGODHA: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday unveiled a financial aid package to support families whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed in the recent floods.

Addressing an inauguration ceremony of electric buses in Sargodha, the CM said families whose houses were completely destroyed will receive Rs1 million each, while partially damaged homes will be eligible for Rs500,000. She added that farmers who lost livestock will be compensated between Rs200,000 and Rs500,000, with cheque distribution beginning within five days.

Maryam Nawaz said the floods had hit 27 cities and over 5,000 villages, warning that the scale of devastation could have been far worse without prompt action. Relief operations, she noted, ensured the evacuation of 2.5 million people and the safe relocation of livestock, alongside food and essential supplies.

Pakistan is currently facing one of its worst flood disasters in decades, caused by heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and glacial lake outbursts. The calamity has killed more than 800 people, affected 1.2 million, and inflicted damages estimated at $50 billion.

Earlier, the CM hailed the joint efforts of the administration, rescue agencies, and the Pakistan Army, describing the ongoing response as the largest rescue operation in the nation’s history.
