ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has restored internet services nationwide after a major fault disrupted connectivity for nearly eight hours. The outage affected large parts of the country, causing significant inconvenience for users relying on PTCL and its subsidiary, Ufone.

A PTCL spokesperson confirmed that the fault, which originated in the company’s distribution network in Karachi late Tuesday night, was identified and rectified by technical teams who worked through the night. The issue was resolved by 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The spokesperson thanked the public for their patience during the disruption.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) also provided support in restoring the services. PTA officials clarified that while PTCL’s entire network was not fully down, certain segments experienced disruptions. They also noted that while other networks like Transworld and Multinet remained operational, services dependent on PTCL’s backbone were affected.

Global internet observatory NetBlocks confirmed the scale of the outage, reporting that 20 percent of Pakistan’s internet connectivity was down, with PTCL being the most impacted provider.
