Citizens may benefit from rare four-day break from August 14 to 17

Pakistan’s Independence Day and the chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) fall just before the next weekend, giving Pakistanis four consecutive holidays in August.

According to a Cabinet Division notification, Thursday, August 14 will be a national public holiday to commemorate Independence Day. The chehlum will fall on Friday, August 15.

While chehlum is not among this year’s official federal holidays, local governments are expected to declare holidays in major cities, as they did last year in Karachi and Rawalpindi.

Citizens will benefit from a rare four-day break from August 14 to 17, as Saturday and Sunday fall after these two important days.

Authorities have also been directed to increase security for both occasions in order to ensure peaceful celebrations and processions.
