Older people often neglect measures to improve heart health

Older people often neglect measures to improve heart health, while the risk of heart disease increases with age.

Here are some common reasons for this:

It is generally believed that heart problems in old age are “natural” and cannot be avoided. Similarly, exercise or light physical activity is considered difficult or unnecessary.

In addition, older people continue to consume foods that are not careful and especially foods that are high in salt or fat.

Older people also regularly undergo doctor’s check-ups or blood pressure/cholesterol tests. Not taking medications on time or stopping them on their own is also common in the elderly population.

Important measures to maintain heart health:

Daily light exercise such as walking.

Reducing salt and fat, eating more vegetables and fruits.

Adequate water consumption and getting enough sleep.

Avoiding smoking and excessive tea/coffee.

Regular blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol tests.

Take your medication as directed by your doctor.

These small but consistent steps can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease.
