Scammers are exploiting WhatsApp users’ interest in joining the iOS beta program by selling fake invitations on Telegram. These fraudsters use altered screenshots, recycled news, and fake verification badges to make their offers appear legitimate. However, WhatsApp does not charge for beta access, and all official updates are free.
WhatsApp’s iOS beta program is hosted through Apple’s TestFlight, which limits enrollment to just 10,000 users. Once the program is full, new testers cannot join unless someone leaves. WhatsApp occasionally even closes enrollment entirely. Scammers take advantage of these restrictions, advertising false “exclusive” access to entice victims.
The fraudsters typically request payments ranging from $25 to $50 through PayPal’s “Friends and Family” option, which eliminates buyer protection. Once paid, victims are blocked, and they have no recourse for recovery. Some Telegram channels promoting these scams have more than 6,000 subscribers, giving them an appearance of legitimacy.
WABetaInfo has reported that users encounter these scams regularly. Scammers often republish WABetaInfo updates and pair them with fake TestFlight screenshots to make the offers seem authentic. Many people fall for these schemes because they look professional and promise access to unreleased features.
WhatsApp has never charged for beta access, and any offer that requests money is fraudulent. The official beta program is free but limited in spots, so users should only trust verified sources when spots become available.
