KARACHI: Not only a great journalist but also a renowned columnist and resident editor of The Financial Daily International, Syed Munawar Hussain Naqvi, passed away suddenly on Sunday, 31 August 2025.
It was a matter of great surprise for me that a few hours before his death, around midnight, the deceased had talked to me about the news of the match between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the ongoing Tri-Nation Series played between the UAE, Pakistan and Afghanistan in the UAE’s Sharjah. He was very friendly and compassionate.
He was not only deeply interested in sports news along with other news, but also corrected the tip of the match news. He used to wait for sports news and would find out through mobile calls or messages when the news would come.
I had daily conversations with the deceased on my byline news regarding sports. The deceased was deeply interested in the Pakistan Super League and used to regularly publish all the news of my Super League on the byline. He would also discuss and edit the news with me before publishing it. He would keep a regular space for my sports news to be published.
Syed Munawar Hussain Naqvi, Resident Editor of Financial Daily International, passed away on the morning of Sunday, August 31, 2025, in Islamabad. He was 74 years old.
Syed Munawar Hussain Naqvi was the elder brother of Manzar Naqvi (Executive Editor of Financial Daily). He started his journalism career with Daily Sun Karachi and later worked with Daily Sun Lahore, Daily Muslim Islamabad and The Nation Islamabad.
He also served for a long time in the Higher Education Commission (HEC), where he was the editor of Higher Education News and was promoted to the post of Director Academic. He was appointed to the same post at the time of retirement.
After retirement, he resumed journalism and served in leading English newspapers of Pakistan. He was not only the resident editor at the Financial Daily International but also wrote a popular weekly column, “Capital Watch”, in which he expressed deep insights on political, economic and social issues.
He was laid to rest in Islamabad on Sunday, August 31, 2025, where worked with Daily Sun Lahore, Daily Muslim Islamabad and The Nation Islamabad.
