The monsoon system that caused heavy rains in Karachi has weakened into a low-pressure area and shifted to Balochistan, ending the likelihood of further torrential downpours in the city. According to the Meteorological Department, only light showers are expected on Thursday.

On Wednesday, DHA Phase-II received the day’s highest rainfall at 32.6 mm, while Surjani Town recorded 149 mm in the last 24 hours. The rains brought cooler conditions, with the maximum temperature dropping to 27.6°C and humidity rising to 92 percent.

Rainfall recorded at other stations included PAF Base Masroor 19 mm, Korangi 17.4 mm, Keamari 17 mm, Gulshan-e-Maymar 16.9 mm, Surjani 13 mm, North Karachi 12.4 mm, Orangi 11.8 mm, University Road 10 mm, Old Airport 9.4 mm, PAF Faisal 9 mm, Gulshan-e-Hadeed 5 mm and Jinnah Terminal 4.4 mm.

Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider Laghari said the system has now moved towards the Makran coast, covering Pasni, Ormara and Turbat, where it may trigger rainfall. “In Karachi, its impact has subsided and only light showers are likely,” he said.
