Monsoon system weakens, fresh spell likely from Aug 27

The monsoon system that triggered heavy rain, thunder and strong winds in the metropolis over the past three days is expected to weaken today (Friday), the Pakistan Meteorological Department (OMD) said on Thursday.

According to Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari, no further heavy showers are forecast after Friday, though skies may remain overcast on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday and Monday. He added that the city’s weather would remain relatively pleasant over the next few days.

Moderate showers were reported in several parts of Karachi on Thursday afternoon. Rain began in Gulshan-e-Maymar, Ahsanabad and Gulshan-e-Hadeed before spreading to Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi, University Road, NIPA, Saddar, Clifton, DHA, Kala Pul, Akhtar Colony, Qayyumabad and adjoining areas. As per official figures, Gulshan-e-Hadeed received the highest rainfall on Thursday at 18mm, followed by 7mm each in Surjani and North Karachi, 4mm at Masroor Base, 3.4mm in Gulshan-e-Maymar, 2.6mm at Old Airport, 1.1mm in Saadi Town and 1mm on University Road.
