Having spent its fury, the weather system which dumped more than 200mm of rain on the city exhaled its last breath on Friday and died out.

Leaving the city dwellers reeling with the shock of being marooned on roads whole night, flooded homes, shops and lost businesses, the thunder and lightning has weakened.

The possibility of further heavy rains has disappeared. From Tuesday to Friday 205mm of rain was recorded at the Pahlawan Goth Weather Station of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The spell saw highest rainfall was recorded at 235 mm (more than nine inches) in Gulshan-e-Hadeed.

The weather in the city is expected to remain mostly cloudy with light rain during the next few days.

According to PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the effects of the monsoon system will continue on the city’s atmosphere for a few days now, however, the possibility of heavy rains has now ended after the system weakens.

Meanwhile, light rain, showers and drizzle may continue, especially during the morning hours in the coming days. According to the ongoing forecast of the Meteorological Department Early Warning Center, the city will remain cloudy most of the time today and tomorrow (Sunday) with light rain. The maximum temperature of the city may be recorded between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius during the next two to three days.

As a result of the effects of the monsoon entering most parts of the province, there is a possibility of rain with thunder in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan. Moderate rain is expected in the districts of Umerkot, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Matiari, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar. There is medium level of flood in Guddu Barrage while there is low level of flood in Sukkur Barrage. The water flow at Kotri barrage is normal.
