ISLAMABAD: The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT), earlier set for October 5, has been postponed across Pakistan amid the ongoing flood crisis. The exam will now be conducted on Sunday, October 26, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) announced.
The decision was taken on the instructions of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, who said the rescheduling was aimed at easing the difficulties of students in flood-affected areas. “This change has been made purely in the interest of students. Their well-being is our foremost priority,” he noted.
Officials said the new date was finalized after consultations with universities and stakeholders nationwide. The delay, they added, is intended to give students more time to prepare and manage challenges caused by the disaster.
Under the revised schedule:
-
Punjab candidates will appear under the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore.
-
Sindh candidates will be under IBA University, Sukkur.
-
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa students will sit the test under Khyber Medical University.
-
Balochistan candidates will be overseen by the University of Balochistan.
-
Students from Islamabad, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Riyadh will take the exam at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad.
The MDCAT is the mandatory entry test for admission to medical and dental colleges, with tens of thousands of students registered to appear this year.
