In view of the forecast of heavy rainfall, and the risk of urban flooding, from today until August 22, Mayor Murtaza Wahab has declared an emergency in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and cancelled all leaves of KMC employees until further notice.

Wahab directed the staff of municipal services to ensure the immediate cleaning of all stormwater drains and to keep both staff and machinery fully available and functional during the expected rains. He stressed for special attention to be given to the 46 drains managed by the KMC, along with the main town drains, to prevent waterlogging and urban flooding.

Further, the mayor reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the city’s citizens and ensuring that all departments remain on high alert during the monsoon season. He stated, “the situation will be continuously monitored, and I will personally visit different areas of the city during the rains.

If any negligence is found, strict action will be taken against the responsible officials without delay.” The directives were announced during a meeting at the mayor’s office, with officials of the KMC and Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) in attendance.
