Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz monitored the province’s flood situation throughout her visit to Japan, Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Bukhari said the chief minister held meetings during her flight and remained in contact with provincial officials for updates on rescue and relief work.
She added that Punjab had already activated a coordinated flood response plan and that India’s sudden release of water had been anticipated, with precautionary measures taken in advance.
Bukhari confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far, though the Ravi River has risen to its highest level in 38 years. The Army has been called in to support relief operations across the province.
