A man was shot dead and his young son critically injured in Khanewal when five armed assailants stormed their home and opened fire in what police described as a revenge attack stemming from an old enmity.

According to details, the incident took place in Basti Hussainabad within the jurisdiction of Kabirwala City Police Station.

Khurshid Ahmad and his son, Ihsan Ahmad, were at home when suspects Imran, Saifullah, Samiullah, and Dildar Dogar allegedly barged in and began indiscriminate firing.

Khurshid died on the spot, while Ihsan sustained serious injuries.

Police sources said that suspect Imran Dogar believed Khurshid was behind the killing of his uncle last year. The uncle had married Khurshid’s daughter through a love marriage, leading to a family feud.

Following the killing, Khurshid and his son were arrested and jailed, but later released on bail.

In an attempt to clear his name, Khurshid had even recorded a video statement in front of the Kaaba, declaring that neither he nor his family was involved in Imran’s uncle’s murder.

Despite this, the suspects allegedly continued to harbour resentment and carried out the deadly attack.

After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene. Police registered a case against them and launched search operations for their arrest.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased staged a protest by placing Khurshid’s body outside the Tehsil Hospital, demanding justice.

The demonstration ended after DSP Kabirwala, Chaudhry Manwar Gujar, assured them of swift action.

District Police Officer Muhammad Ismail Kharrak has formed special police teams to apprehend the suspects, giving them a 24-hour deadline to bring the perpetrators to justice.
