A man allegedly shot dead his brother-in-law and sister-in-law before setting their house on fire in Sabzazar’s N Block on Friday, reportedly in an attempt to destroy evidence. Police have arrested the suspect.

The accused stormed into the residence of 43-year-old Samar Abbas and opened fire on him and his 40-year-old wife, Kulsoom. Both victims died on the spot.

After committing the murders, the suspect set the house ablaze before attempting to flee.

Police said the couple had just returned home after dropping their children at school and were alone at the time of the attack.

Preliminary investigations suggest a financial dispute triggered the killings. The investigators said the suspect had previously borrowed money from his brother-in-law after selling his wife’s jewellery. When he demanded more funds, Samar Abbas refused.
