The water level at Kotri Barrage in the Indus River has continued to recede, turning a moderate flood situation into a low-level flood, while floodwaters have also started to withdraw from nearby riverine (katcha) areas.
According to the control room, water inflow at Kotri Barrage was recorded at 290,061 cusecs while the outflow stood at 271,806 cusecs.
Over the past 24 hours alone, inflow has decreased by 61,506 cusecs and outflow by 57,906 cusecs.
Officials said that since Saturday, the barrage has been witnessing a steady reduction in water levels. Over the past four days, inflow has dropped by 130,504 cusecs and outflow by 121,754 cusecs, significantly reducing pressure on protective embankments.
With the fall in water levels, floodwaters spread across katcha villages upstream and downstream of Kotri have begun to recede, and normalcy is gradually returning to affected settlements. Irrigation authorities expressed hope that if the current pace of decline continues, water flow at Kotri Barrage will return to normal within the next three days. The normal flow at the barrage is around 200,000 cusecs.
