City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will spend Rs28 billion on development projects in the metropolis this year, while the overall portfolio of ongoing schemes amounts to Rs400billion.
Speaking to the media during a visit to Begum Khursheed Road in District Korangi, Wahab said that unlike those who “wake up late to hold press conferences and spread hopelessness,” his team was working round the clock for the city’s progress. He was accompanied by Parliamentary Leader in City Council Karamullah Waqasi and other elected representatives.
The mayor highlighted that Rs70billion has been allocated for the K-IV water project, while new bridges are being built at Murghi Khana, Shah Faisal Colony and Cattle Colony. Work on the ICI Bridge will also commence soon, he added.
Wahab said 106 roads damaged by recent rains are being restored and would be completed within the next 60 days. “Even at 2am. our teams are working so that citizens wake up to find newly built roads,” he added.
He further stated that KMC has already initiated work on Empress Market, Preedy Street and Sharae Faisal, in addition to schemes in Malir and Khokhrapar. Though Model Colony roads fall under the town administration, KMC is undertaking their repair as well, he said.
Wahab stressed that funds are also being provided to major hospitals including Indus Hospital, SIUT and NICVD, underscoring KMC’s commitment to health and infrastructure. He urged institutions to shun negative politics and work together for Karachi’s development.
