KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that a low-pressure system over the region persists as a deep depression, likely bringing heavy rainfall to Karachi and southern Sindh districts until September 10.
Deputy Director Met Office Anjum Nazir Zaigham stated that the system is producing winds of 60–70 km/h and poses a risk of urban flooding in the city. He added that the system may weaken into a depression within the next 18 to 24 hours.
The weather disturbance, originating from Madhya Pradesh, has moved into Rajasthan and adjoining parts of southeastern Sindh, driving strong monsoon currents into Sindh and eastern Punjab.
On Monday, Karachi experienced cloudy skies, gusty winds, and scattered showers. Light rain was reported in Metroville, SITE, Baldia, and Mauripur, while drizzle occurred in Defence, Korangi Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Burns Road, and MA Jinnah Road.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing spell.
