Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab praised city officials for their swift clean-up efforts after heavy rains crippled the metropolis earlier this week.
In a post on X, Wahab shared videos of cleared roads and lauded the work of municipal staff, sanitation workers, the civil administration, KWSC, Solid Waste Management, traffic police, city wardens, and the PDMA.
“My compliments to the Karachi team. Don’t be discouraged by unfair criticism—continue serving the people with passion,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference, Wahab compared Karachi’s situation with New York, Dubai, and Mumbai, noting that even developed cities struggle under extreme weather. He stressed that climate change has intensified rainfall across Pakistan, citing devastation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“The fact is our drainage system can manage up to 40mm of rain, while the recent spell brought 170mm. These are extraordinary circumstances, and we must adapt rather than only criticise,” he added.
