ISLAMABAD: Member of the National Assembly Isphanyar Bhandara has been honoured with inclusion in the newly-formed Minority Caucus in Parliament, a significant step toward advancing the rights and participation of minority communities in Pakistan.
The initiative builds upon last year’s milestone when the PML-N-led Punjab Assembly formally established a Parliamentary Minority Caucus, setting an example for inclusive governance at the provincial level. The caucus now expands to the federal legislature, reflecting the vision of Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the leadership of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who have consistently emphasized equitable representation for all citizens, regardless of faith or background.
Mr. Bhandara, a prominent parliamentarian and long-standing advocate for minority rights, welcomed his inclusion, expressing optimism that the caucus will serve as an effective platform for policy dialogue, legislative reforms, and greater political participation for minority groups. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that issues related to education, employment, security, and social justice for minorities remain central to the national agenda.
Political analysts view the formation of the Minority Caucus as a step toward institutionalizing inclusivity in Pakistan’s parliamentary processes. It is expected to provide a collective voice for minority representatives, allowing them to influence policy decisions more effectively and promote interfaith harmony.
The caucus is also seen as an opportunity to bridge gaps between communities by fostering dialogue and collaboration. Observers believe that by creating a dedicated space within Parliament, the government is sending a clear message that minorities are not only stakeholders but essential contributors to Pakistan’s democratic journey.
Isphanyar Bhandara emphasized that the caucus must go beyond symbolism, aiming instead for concrete action on pressing issues faced by minority communities. “This platform should become a catalyst for equality and empowerment, in line with the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who believed in a Pakistan where citizens of all religions could live with dignity and equal rights,” he remarked.
The inclusion of Bhandara in the caucus has been welcomed by civil society groups and minority leaders, who expressed hope that the move will pave the way for legislative measures that protect minority rights, encourage representation at all levels of governance, and contribute to building a more cohesive society.
