India has issued a measured response to the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which states that any aggression against one will be treated as aggression against both.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said New Delhi would carefully examine the pact’s implications for India’s national security as well as for regional and global stability.
“We have seen reports of the signing of a strategic mutual defence pact between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan,” Jaiswal noted. “The Indian Government was aware that this development, which formalizes a long-standing arrangement between the two countries, had been under consideration.”
He added that India remains committed to protecting its national interests and ensuring comprehensive security across all sectors.
Meanwhile, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman reaffirmed Riyadh’s partnership with Islamabad, declaring on X: “KSA and Pakistan. One front against any aggressor. Always and forever.”
The agreement was concluded in Riyadh on Wednesday during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
