LAHORE – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted bail to Shershah Khan, a nephew of PTI founder Imran Khan and son of Aleema Khan, in the Jinnah House arson and siege case.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul announced the verdict after reserving judgment earlier this week. The case, registered at Sarwar Road Police Station, relates to the May 9 riots that led to the attack and burning of Jinnah House following the arrest of the PTI chief.
Court Proceedings
Shershah’s legal team argued that no evidence connected him to the violence and that the investigation report had yet to be submitted. They maintained the allegations were unfounded and politically motivated. The prosecution opposed the plea, urging the court to keep him in custody while inquiries continued.
The judge granted bail, noting the absence of sufficient evidence at this stage.
Background
Shershah was arrested last month on charges of participating in the May 9 unrest. Police claimed “credible evidence” linked him to the violence that targeted public and military properties in Lahore. SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed said the case was being pursued in accordance with the law.
Brother Also Granted Bail
A day earlier, Shershah’s elder brother, Shahrez Khan, secured bail in the same case after submitting a surety bond of Rs100,000. Both brothers had been detained on allegations of involvement in the May 9 protests
