IGP recommends major reshuffle in Karachi Range police

In a proposed major reshuffle in the city police force, IG Ghulam Nabi Memon has recommended the transfer of 65 officers within the Karachi Range. Among those proposed for removal are one deputy inspector general (DIG) and three senior superintendents of police (SSPs), along with several other senior and mid cadre officers.

According to sources within the Sindh Police Department, IG Memon has submitted his proposal to the provincial chief minister, urging the transfer of key officers, including DIG South Asad Raza, SSP Keamari, SSP Korangi, and SSP City, along with several SPs, DSPs, and SHOs. However, in a departure from the usual practice, the chief minister has instructed the Special Branch and intelligence agencies to submit detailed reports on the officers included in the proposed reshuffle before taking any decision.

It has also been revealed that IG Memon is set to retire on Dec 31, 2025, sparking speculation about his successor. AIG Javed Alam Odho is widely considered a strong contender for the position. However, sources suggest that tensions between IG Memon and AIG Odho have been escalating for several months. IG Memon is reportedly lobbying for AIG Sindh Azad Khan to succeed him, while many officers in the Karachi Range are said to be aligned with AIG Odho. This dynamic has led to attempts by IG Memon to diminish AIG Odho’s influence within the department through the proposed transfers.

Earlier this month, IG Memon ordered investigations against eight DSPs in connection with various allegations.
