Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff, visited Turbat, the heart of Southern Balochistan, to review security, development initiatives, and coordination between civil and military institutions. The visit holds great significance for a region that has historically been marginalized, yet today stands at the center of Pakistan’s strategic and economic future. His interactions with the provincial leadership, local administration, and the troops conveyed a powerful message: the Pakistan Army stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Balochistan in their journey toward peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
For decades, Balochistan has carried the heavy burden of neglect, insecurity, and underdevelopment. Despite its vast resources and strategic location, the province has often remained on the margins of national progress, creating space for unrest and external exploitation.
Field Marshal Munir’s visit is not merely symbolic-it reflects a conscious recognition that Balochistan’s stability and prosperity are indispensable to Pakistan’s overall future. His commitment to combine security measures with socio-economic uplift demonstrates a vision that is both practical and people-centered.
During his briefing in Turbat, the Army Chief was apprised of the evolving threat landscape, including challenges posed by foreign-sponsored terrorism under “Fitna al Hindustan.” He praised the morale and readiness of troops operating in one of the most difficult environments, recognizing their sacrifices to protect national sovereignty.
Yet, Field Marshal Munir made it clear that security alone is not enough. Lasting peace requires visible dividends of progress-roads, schools, hospitals, and jobs that directly improve the lives of local communities. This balance between operations and development is central to his approach.
The Army Chief’s meetings with the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Balochistan underscored the need for synergy between military resolve and civilian governance. He emphasized good governance, transparency, and accountability as the bedrock of sustainable development.
The message is clear: the Army can provide security and facilitate projects, but true ownership of progress must lie with civilian institutions. Provincial leaders must ensure that resources are used effectively and that ordinary citizens of Gwadar, Turbat, and adjoining districts see tangible improvements in their daily lives.
Southern Balochistan is no longer a forgotten periphery; it is emerging as a gateway to Pakistan’s future. With Gwadar central to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Turbat has the potential to become a hub of connectivity, linking Pakistan with Central Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
Field Marshal Munir’s reaffirmation of support for socio-economic initiatives in this region reflects a vision where infrastructure is complemented by human development-education, healthcare, and employment. Without empowering the people, mega projects cannot deliver their true promise.
What sets the Army Chief’s message apart is its focus on people. By calling for inclusive development and by reassuring locals that the Army stands with them, he has taken a step to rebuild trust in a province where alienation has long prevailed. His vision is not just about safeguarding borders but about safeguarding dignity and opportunity for Balochistan’s citizens.
To translate this vision into reality, several priorities are essential:
= Strengthening governance and curbing corruption in development projects.
= Expanding education, vocational training, and healthcare facilities to empower youth.
= Ensuring local employment in CPEC and other initiatives to build ownership.
= Continuing dialogue and reconciliation with alienated segments of society.
= Harnessing natural resources in a way that directly benefits local communities.
In his impactful visit, Field Marshal Munir once again proved that he is not only a military leader but also a statesman with foresight. His recognition of the interdependence of security and development, his call for civil-military cooperation, and his appreciation of the troops reflect a vision rooted in inclusivity and progress.
Balochistan is Pakistan’s strategic heartland. Its prosperity is not a privilege-it is a right and a necessity. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s visit to Turbat reinforces this reality. By combining security with development, and by emphasizing governance alongside military resolve, he has charted a roadmap for turning challenges into opportunities.
It is now up to all stakeholders-federal and provincial governments, political leaders, and civil society-to complement this vision with sincerity and action. If implemented in spirit, Turbat can transform into a symbol of peace and prosperity, not just for Balochistan but for the whole of Pakistan.
