Islamabad : Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has been hailed by the Washington Times as an “Iron Man” and one of the most influential figures for South Asia’s security. The US publication described him as a disciplined, professional soldier capable of taking tough decisions, qualities that international observers say could make him a strategic partner for US President Donald Trump.
According to the report, Munir’s popularity rose sharply during heightened Pakistan-India tensions. The paper notes that his calm resolve and strong nerves allowed him to steer critical decisions, earning him respect not only within Pakistan but also abroad.
The Washington Times argued that Munir’s leadership style makes him a “natural partner” for President Trump. His recent meeting with the US president was described as exceptionally important, particularly at a time when relations between Islamabad and New Delhi remain strained.
The paper noted that Trump personally intervened to broker a ceasefire between Pakistan and India—efforts welcomed by Pakistan but rejected by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Highlighting Munir’s regional role, the report credited him with shaping Pakistan’s military strategy to address threats from Afghanistan and Iran. It also pointed to Pakistan’s arrest of the Kabul airport attack mastermind and his handover to the United States—an action praised by President Trump as a sign of Islamabad’s commitment to the global fight against terrorism.
The Washington Times stressed that counter-terrorism cooperation has helped reinvigorate Pak-US relations. The Trump administration, it said, is actively working to restore ties with Islamabad, with Munir playing a key role in facilitating dialogue and mutual trust.
The paper emphasized that Field Marshal Asim Munir remains focused on professional duty rather than self-promotion or politics. His quiet yet firm approach to leadership is being hailed internationally as a “brilliant example of military diplomacy.”
