Ex-judge moves court seeking removal of Sindh governor

Former judge Ahmed Ali Gabol has filed a constitutional petition seeking the removal of Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori from office. The petitioner requested the immediate dismissal of Governor Tessori, arguing that he has violated the constitutional oath of impartiality.

According to the petition, the governor has promoted politics on an ethnic basis and, while sitting with MQM leadership, has spoken about ethnic and provincial divisions. It further stated that the governor delivered speeches at the Governor House and other venues, in which he allegedly suggested separating Karachi from Sindh.

The petition contends that Governor Tessori attempted to incite linguistic hatred by invoking the Urdu-speaking community. Such conduct, it argues, violates Articles 4, 2, 25, and 32 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which guarantee equality and provincial harmony. The petitioner also cited Supreme Court rulings that bar the use of state offices for political agendas.

The petition pleads that under Article 101(3) of the Constitution, the President of Pakistan should remove Governor Tessori from office. It maintains that the governorship is a non-political post, but Tessori has been using both his position and the Governor House for the interests of a specific political party.

The petition demands that the office of the Sindh Governor be upheld as a symbol of federal unity and provincial harmony. The Federation’s secretary for law and justice, secretary cabinet division, and the principal secretary to the Sindh Governor have been made respondents in the case.
