Disarming Hezbollah; Israel makes attractive offer to lure Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu offered to provide full support to Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah and also indicated that he would withdraw his troops from Lebanese outposts.

According to the international news agency, a statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said that it welcomes the decision to disarm Hezbollah in order to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and the supremacy of state institutions.

The statement also offered that it is ready to cooperate with the Lebanese decision to disarm Hezbollah for a safe and stable future.

Israel not only announced its full support for efforts to disarm Hezbollah, but also indicated that it would gradually withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon outposts in return.

The Prime Minister’s Office statement said that if the Lebanese army takes the necessary steps to disarm Hezbollah, Israel will take military withdrawal measures in coordination with the security mechanism being formed under the leadership of the United States.

This development comes nine months after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Lebanon after a year-long border war in November 2024.

It should be noted that Israeli forces are still deployed in five key locations in southern Lebanon from where they continue to target Hezbollah positions.

Earlier this month, the Lebanese president and prime minister approved a US plan to disarm Hezbollah and ordered the army to disarm Hezbollah within a year.

US special envoy Tom Barrack said during a recent visit to Beirut and Jerusalem that Israel must fulfill its commitments under the ceasefire. Lebanon has taken the first step. Now is the time for Israel to fully withdraw.

The US has urged Israel to stop “unnecessary” military operations in Lebanon because they could undermine the Lebanese government’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah.
