A complaint has been filed with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) against former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram for allegedly endorsing an Indian gambling platform.
The petitioner, Muhammad Fiaz, submitted the complaint at the NCCIA Lahore office, accusing Akram of serving as brand ambassador for the betting app Baji and promoting gambling through social media.
According to Fiaz, Akram shared a promotional video on Instagram in which he urged fans to join the app, backed his Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Quetta Gladiators to defeat Lahore Qalandars, and encouraged users to earn money through the platform. He requested that a case be registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.
The development comes amid a wider crackdown on gambling promotions by celebrities and influencers. Recently, YouTuber Saad Rehman, known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested at Lahore airport for allegedly promoting platforms including Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365, and B9 Game.
An FIR was registered against him under several sections of the Electronic Crimes Act, as well as Sections 294-B and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The court granted a two-day physical remand, ordering him to be produced again on August 19.
